Gary Manuel Salon, Studio and Aveda Institute Launch 2012 Earth Month Campaign

SEATTLE (March 2012)– Global Aveda Earth Month champions Gary Manuel Companies are proud to partner with Aveda and Puget Soundkeeper Alliance as they launch their 2012 Earth Month Campaign. Their environmental sustainability practices and Earth Month fundraising achievements combined with their passion have raised over $170,000 for the Puget Soundkeeper Alliance, a local environmental non-profit in the Puget Sound. 

“Because of this support, Puget Soundkeeper Alliance has been able to expand our efforts to stop toxic pollution from flowing into our streams, lakes, rivers and bays, and bring about positive change for Puget Sound on a larger number of issues,” states Chris Wilke, Executive Director of Puget Soundkeeper Alliance. 

This will be Gary Manuel’s fifth year participating in Earth Month fundraising. A calendar of Earth Month events will include:

Prestigious Aveda Flower Award Honors Those Who Go Beyond the Call of Duty

Gary Manuel Salon Releases Earth Month Video to Global Aveda Audience

SEATTLE (February 2012)– Gary Manuel Salon is pleased to announce the release of their 2012 Earth Month video. The 8-minute video vividly showcases the staff’s best practices in an effort to inspire other salons to take action against water pollution. Beauty meets community in their message of salon sustainability practices, recycling, fundraising, and annual neighborhood clean-ups.

“Our Earth Month fundraising for the Puget Soundkeeper Alliance is one of the things Gary Manuel Salon does that I am most proud of, “ stated Co-Founder Gary Howse.

Since joining the Aveda Earth Month Campaign in 2007, more than 100 Gary Manuel employees have raised $170,000 for the Puget Soundkeeper Alliance, a local non-profit organization committed to protecting the waters of Puget Sound.

At the top of the world in the Himalayas of Nepal things are changing for the better for many families and the forest as well. It started a decade ago when Aveda began looking for partners to make beautiful handcrafted paper for our holiday gifts we wanted paper that was sustainably sourced and we learned that the people of Nepal have been making lope bark paper since the 12th century. It was used for royal decrees because it’s traditionally believed to last 1000 years.

Today we use it to cover all of our gift boxes in green paper all year long. Purchasing over 339,000 sheets of this durable paper; employing 3,800 people, 80% of whom are women, to craft it by hand. First they collect bark from lopde shrubs beating than cooking it into a special pulp mixture. This is pressed into screens were dried in the sun. Finally women die in paper green with non-toxic pigments.

More income for families means hope for a better future. Guma Pun is an example of the power of papermaking. The 23-year-old whose parents never went to school is now head of a papermaking enterprise. She is supporting her sisters and brothers so that they can get an education and supporting her sister so she can fulfill her dream of becoming a teacher.

With the income from papermaking 1000 families can buy the food their children need they can fix leaky roofs and by clothing. Skin tone

Cool skin tones range in color from pale, with pink or minimal undertones; to medium, with pink, golden, or minimal cheek color; to very dark brown. So-called true olive is also considered a “cool” skin tone.

Cool individuals have eye colors in the following color range: black-brown; dark brown; dark blue, gray-blue; and hazel, with blue or white-gray flecks.

Hair color

Natural hair colors of the cool individual include blue-black, dark brown, medium ash blond, and golden blond.
