“Quality and creativity are always the goal, and achievable only by the most committed professionals.”
Allure, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour, Town & Country, Modern Salon–Gary also received the International Beauty Show (IBS) Award for most newsworthy hair designer and was named one of the 10 most influential salon owners in America by Modern Salon Magazine.
As co-owner and founder of Gary Manuel Salon, Gary began his professional hair career in 1976. While studying chemistry in college, he saw that his creativity could thrive in the beauty industry. He worked in several local salons, including Frederick and Nelson, then Seattle’s premier department store. There, Gary met Manuel–Salon co-founder Manuel Benevich, that is–and together they have ran the Salon for over 33 years.
Gary’s talent for styling and fashion was matched only by an enduring passion for educating and inspiring the industry’s next wave of master designers. Along with the Salon’s Education Leader Tsofia Richter, Gary was deeply involved in the development of the Salon’s seasonal fashion releases as well as making sure the salon’s award winning designer training program continues to be one of the country’s best.
Gary passed away in August of 2014, his legacy lives on through each of the 100’s of humans he inspired.
“For a relationship to survive, you have to have a very similar work ethic and a very similar philosophy.”
A business partner with Gary Howse in Gary Manuel Salon since 1979, Manuel Benevich attributes the longevity of both the business and the relationship to the many similar passions these two very different men share. Obviously motivated by their interest in beauty and the fashion industry, the two are also passionate about educating a new generation of highly skilled professional stylists and giving back to their community. And of course it helps that they both share the highest standards for customer service.
Manuel brings years of service expertise, ideas, and systems to the beauty industry from his former career as a restaurant owner and manager. He’s helped construct a team philosophy based on creating a Salon where people can build long-lasting, successful careers through lifetime learning, artistic innovation, customer service, and–last, but hardly least–community involvement. Under his consummate leadership, Gary Manuel Salon has received numerous philanthropic awards including the 1996 Philanthropic Small Business Award from the National Society of Fundraising Executives and the Pacific Northwest 2002 Small Business Good Works Award from KCTS.
